CREATING A CROSS-ARTS CURRICULUM

The Arts refers to the group of subjects that relate to music, fashion, theatre, dance, graphic design, film and much more. All of these subjects help us to discover others and ourselves through artistic experiences (Emery, 1998). 

 

Within AusVELS, the Arts allows students to create and critically explore visual performances, inspire and explore ideas, and nurture cultural understanding and invention. According to the AusVELS curriculum, the Arts is recognised as a discipline-based learning area, but contains many possibilities for a cross-disciplinary approach.

 

In Foundation level to Grade 6, students are involved with creating and making a variety of works of arts before exploring and responding to them. This may involve creating a piece of artwork, responding to a performance, or exploring a musical piece.

 

For these lesson plans, I have focused specifically on Music, Visual Art and Drama.
